AP Chemistry Self-Studying

Hey guys! So I have a dilemma, I received my schedule for my classes next year, and I have the easiest AP Chem teacher known to man. The problem is almost no one ever gets a 5 on the AP Chem test. I really enjoy chemistry and I'd really like a 5. So my question is, what is the best way to self-study AP Chem? And what prep book is best to use? Thanks a lot guys

TL;DR What is the best way to self-study AP Chem? What is/are the best prep books to buy?
We use the Zumdahl 7th edition textbook

I used Chemistry: The Central Science by Brown and Barron’s AP Chemistry for a condensed review. Don’t know how much they contributed to my success though since chemistry has always been my thing. I got a 5.

Ptontiger16, did you self study AP Chem and get a 5?

That is what I have to do because AP Chem simply doesn’t EXIST in my crappy little high school.

Don’t self-study AP Chemistry unless you’re really good at it. There are too many tricky concepts that can get confusing. I’m taking AP Chemistry now, and it’s a lot of work. No one should blame the teacher for not getting a 5. AP Chemistry is a lot of independent work, and it requires a great deal of ones time. Don’t take ptontiger16’s response to heart because chemistry is his/her niche. Just take the class.

If you’re taking the course, you can’t self-study! You can do extra studying as each subject is touched upon in class, and that might be a good strategy for you.

I’m planning to Self Study Chem as well. I couldn’t fit AP Chem in my schedule too. I did took Honors Chem last year. I also got 790 in Chem but chemistry is by no means my forte. I’m planning to just self prep with Barron.

I took AP chemistry last year and my teacher used the same book as ptontiger16. I myself got a 5, plus a good deal of people in my class. It’s a great book; it covers in good detail what’s on the exam

I’m a Chinese student who is planing to take AP courses during my last high school yearin China(NEXT YEAR). And on the other hand, I have self-studied SAT2 Chemistry and have taken the SAT2 test. Is it OK for me to self-study the concepts in AP Chemistry?

@RedSn0W, I hear ya. I’m in the same boat! We have had no tests/quizzes/assignments in AP Chem to date. I am so scared for this exam. I’m hoping that using the Barron’s, Princeton Review, and (to an extent) Zumdahl will help me get at least a 3 - although a 4 is my goal. The average of her students these part couple of years has been a 1.5. D:
