So these are the science classes I've taken so far and are currently enrolled in.

Fresh: College Prep Biology
Sophomore: College Prep Chemistry
Junior: AP Biology and Anatomy/Physiology

So my question is for senior year should I take AP Chemistry or AP Physics. I was told that as a science major (Likely to be Biochemistry or biomedical engineering) and Pre-med, it would be nice to take a physics class at some point in high school. But I see myself benefitting more from taking AP Chemistry due to the nature of the course and the relationship to my major.

If I took AP Chemistry, I could always take Honors Engineering which counts as a physics class, but I'm not sure if it would look better to take AP Physics. I mean I did already take college prep physics.

Thank your for all your responses! I know this may sound out of the blue but class registration for next year starts in a month.

Oh and I’ll be applying to 6 UC’s and an ivy or Stanford, just to give you all an idea of who is going to be looking at my transcripts.

Take the subject that interests you the most.

Well I am a junior this year and took Acc.(honors) physics and AP chemistry. Maybe you can double up. I don’t see many engineering schools liking a person who hasn’t taken arguably the most important science class out there, physics. Take it senior year.

Any other opinions?

Note that many medical schools frown on using AP credit for pre-med requirements, so you need to check to see whether the AP credit will be of any use if you decide to do pre-med (you may want to ask on the pre-med forum about this).

Biology majors and pre-meds often do not need to take chemistry and physics for those majoring in those subjects; they may be allowed to take less rigorous versions (though there can be fierce competition from numerous pre-meds all trying to get 3.7 GPAs for medical school). Engineering majors need to take the harder physics courses alongside physics majors.

Thanks, I was thinking that I wasn’t going to transfer AP Bio as it is. So would taking AP Chem then a dual enrollment physics class suffice? My real question is if not having physics on my transcripts will hurt me on college apps. Taking a dual enrollment wouldn’t let UCs see my physics class.

If you’ve already taken basic physics, then it really doesn’t matter what you pick. They’re both rigorous classes and colleges will be happy to see either.

Some things to keep in mind:
-You can’t get college credit for AP Chem if you are pre-med
-Physics will be required for BME, and AP Phys could get you out of that
