Hi all,
I am a rising junior, and below are the classes I’m thinking to take. I would appreciate it tons if you could let me know if this load is doable or not – I want to have a fun and fulfilling junior year, but I also don’t want to die while I’m at it.
AP Calc AB
AP Eng Lang - mandatory
AP Spanish
APUSH
AP Art Studio Drawing
Art Theory - mandatory
Bio Honors - mandatory
Literature Honors - mandatory
I plan to self-study AP Calc AB and APUSH over the summer. English and Spanish are my strongest subjects. I’m average at art, but I think it’s really fun. I’m a decent student right now.
Thank you so much for any feedback!!
I took a ton of APs junior year. AP Lang and APUSH complemented each other very well the way my teachers taught it and it was a great setup. Also, my math-savvy peers liked AP Calc that year, too. I think this might be too much if you don’t stick to a strict schedule with the self-studying. APUSH shouldn’t be too difficult to self-study but my teacher definitely helped with test expectations. If anything, it sounds like you can drop AP Art and then keep going down the chain if you want to shrink it a bit.
Drop AP art and take regular drawing - this is overkill. Keep in mind that you’ll need to up our impact in ECs and you’ll have standardized testing.
I would say drop AP Calc or APUSH (or both, if you don’t want to feel suffocated by the workload during your second semester). I say you would probably not be able to get straight A’s (unless your school has a more flexible grading scale or you just work really hard or you are just very bright) unless you drop one or the other, especially given that you said that you are not the best at art (AP Art takes a really long time - most of my friends took it thinking it would be an easy grade; it was, but it took them long times drawing). I do not want to sound pessimistic or overcritical, but this is just my two cents as a graduating senior this year.
Okay yeah, that’s true. I think I’ll drop AP Art then and go into a normal art elective like you guys said. thank you!
If I were you I wouldn’t take AP Lang and Lit Honors. Seems like a lot. I would just do the lit honors because it’s mandatory and save AP for senior year. Colleges typically only give credit for one anyway.
AP Art is very time consuming and unless you are planning on going into Art, I think it’s a class that won’t give you any benefit. Man that’s a ton of classes you are required to take.
Depends on your work ethic and path. I took AP Calc AB, APUSH, AP Physics, AP Lang, and AP Macro this year as a junior and my workload was extremely reasonable. I’m taking 6 APs next year. I know someone who took my AP’s PLUS AP Spanish (he’s a natural Spanish speaker though) and he seemed to be fine as well. If you’re planning to go to a Top 20 University and you think you can handle the APs, then go for it. If not, don’t kill yourself over it. Colleges like to see you challenge yourself, not kill yourself.
I really enjoyed APUSH, and that’s as much as I can say :-).
