do schools look into the fact that you took an AP without taking the AP?

cuz last year i took as a junior an "AP" Stats where in reality it was an a senior babby sitting class. it was a fun class. didn't do ****. literally. never got a paper back. it was great. I got AP class credit (for gpa) by signing a piece of paper. i don't even know what a bell curve means, but i got an A. didn't take the ap though.

but my question is this:

do college realize this and frown upon peeps who don't take the test?

cuz other than the test, it looks pretty balla on a app. A's in stats AP as a junior with another math class that year, graduating with 5 years of "math"

it doesn't matter if you take the class and not the ap exam. That's normal. A lot of people do that. They take the class, they don't like the subject and they don't wanna take the exam. I don't thikn college views that as bad.

It just seems so weird. My kids would never think of this. They take the class for two reasons: one, we have tons of them, so to not take them would be to not take a rigorous schedule, and two, to obtain college credit, especially in the subjects they don't want to have to deal with in college. Never would occur to them to not take the AP exam any more than it would occur to them to not take the final semester exam -- goes hand in hand. The class without the AP seems to scream ... I skated my way through a "cake, overinflated grades" class and didn't want to put the work into studying for the test. Of course, I'm not an admissions officer ... but that's the way I'd look at it ... someone wants to pad their grade with a "weighted," solely for the GPA race. For seniors, though ... guess if you don't care about getting the college credit for a particular class ... I can see how you might figure, "what's the point?" Afterall, you'll have already been accepted before the exam and taking the class demonstrates "rigor" for admissions officers looking at your senior schedule.

zebes, who's becoming very jaded lately, I guess ... sigh

Our district doesn't allow students to not take the exam. The exam has to be for in Aug. when students pick up their schedules for the year. Because students know that they are taking the AP class there is also an extensive amount of homework to complete over the summer that is due on the first day the class meets in Aug.

I think ours is the same way, too, girls4mom. At least I can't think of anyone my kids mentioned as not taking the exam, except those doing poorly in the classes. If you have a C or above in the classes, you don't pay for the exam. The school system does. Anyone below a C would have to pay the freight, so to speak, if they decide to take it.
