I am looking to get into Stanford/Ivy League school. I know AP Classes aren't everything but I am looking for a start here.

Currently I am leaning towards:

11th Grade:
AP Physics B
AP Economics

12th Grade:
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP Government
AP Calculous
AP Literature

Should I take more in 11th grade? Should I do AP Bio in 11th grade also and do AP Physics C in 12th grade instead? Will that be to much work? Thank's so much in advance!

My daughter took AP Physics and History in 10th grade. In 11th she took four APs and in 12th five more, for a total of 11. This seems to be a lot, but she was able to keep up. She had a 3.96 GPA and 4.42 weighted. She had a million great ECs and high SAT scores.

She was still rejected by Brown and only got a guaranteed transfer from Cornell.

While taking lots of APs is a start, you can not count on them alone for Ivy acceptance. What I have found by looking at acceptance threads is that they LOVE it when you have a passion for a certain subject and go beyond the high school arena for your ECs.

Just from a schedule stand point, I am currently in 11th grade and taking AP Chem, AP Calc and AP Lang and it is a lot. AP Lang isn’t bad at all but, at least for me, Chem is a ton of work and it leaves me little time to focus on Calc. I can’t imagine taking AP Bio (which I took last year, not too difficult but a lot of reading) along with both of those, plus Lit and Gov’t. I would try to spread them out a little more

Hey, thanks a lot for your post. It’s great. At my school you cannot do AP English in 11th grade, but you can take the AP test for honors english which I will do. There’s no way I can do apush because at my school nobody does well. Instead I’m going to take Honors U.S. history and probably AP economics or AP European. I’m doing AP Physics for sure as well, but I am undecided on either doing AP Bio or Honors bio. Thanks alot

Taking AP Physics C and AP Calculus together is the better way to learn the two subjects. So I recommend you do that in your senior year. Biology, if you haven’t taken it previously, is a good choice in your junior year. I don’t think it needs to be “AP”. It’s unlikely that you’ll want to place out of it at an Ivy/Stanford. AP US History is a better choice that AP government and AP economics. That it’s “hard” at your school is all about what a rigorous program is about.

Also I would encourage you to take at least one “lighter/fun” course in your senior year, such as something in the visual/performing arts.

I don’t see a language course in your list. I’ll assume that you would have had 4 years of language by the time you graduate. If not a final AP
