Ap classes freshman year

So I recently started high school and I’m having a little trouble related to AP classes. At my school, freshman are offered AP Human Geography. I had no understanding about AP’s and what they were and therefore I didn’t take it. Is this is a big deal?

No, it’s totally fine! Most students don’t take AP classes until their Junior or Senior year. If you want to be ahead of other students though, taking an AP class (or two if you can juggle it) sophomore year would be a good idea!

AP stands for advanced placement…it is to have you take college level courses in HS…except you take them over a year instead of a semester. Freshman/sophomores are not really expected to take AP courses as they are not ready for college courses yet. Try to take honors classes if you can be prepared Junior/senior year Ap classes.

Thanks! Appreciate the info, I am currently enrolled in several honors classes and doing well in them so I’m thinking to even start next year with 1 or 2 to get even better prepared for junior/senior year
