Well, I am currently a junior. I currently have only one AP: Chemistry.

I signed up to take Physics I Honors, Spanish III Honors, AP Stat, AP Literature, AP Calc AB, and AP Bio next year. I am also taking AP Gov and Politics over the summer.

My school offers 15-16 AP's max. Most top kids take 4-5. If I do this schedule, I will have 6. My rank is about 15. 4.0 UW. 4.58 W.

If I keep up my A's with this senior schedule, will it help reduce the bad fact that I am only taking one AP this year? I know colleges see your senior schedule and grades, but will it be bad that my junior year was not very good? If anyone can harness details or personal experience I would appreciate it very much.

Yes, it’s definitely good to take as many as you can handle while still maintaining a high GPA. It won’t necessarily get you into Stanford but more APs will increase your chances.

I took 6 this year and I asked around about how hard the classes were so I coupled a few hard ones with some easier ones so I didn’t kill myself but still maximized the amount of APs. I recommend doing this as well, see what classes are easier and which ones are not as challenging so you can have a tough, but not too tough, schedule next year.

Well, every school is different. At some schools, some classes are more difficult. Your schedule looks difficult because there are so many science and math classes, which - as I assume you are a match/science person - may not be difficult per se, but they will be time-consuming. AP Statistics is not particularly difficult, and either is AP Calculus AB assuming you’ve had a decent pre-calculus class. AP Biology and AP English Literature can be time consuming; AP Biology is often a LOT of memorization. Spanish III shouldn’t be a concern, and Physics I could go either way.

Thank you for the input. Do you think that I still in okay shape even with only one AP this year? If it matters, I put many hours into extracurriculars this year; and yes, AP STAT, Physics, AP Calc, and Spanish III should be no issue.

How many AP classes do students at your school usually take? What reasons were behind the limited number? Will your course load still be considered “most rigorous?”

Not most rigorous-the top 3 get that. Most kids who are good take 4-5. I didn’t take more because I was an uninformed tenth grader when I picked classes. Also, my mom bridled me.

It certainly won’t help. But those eggs are in the basket. What you have to focus on now is pulling good grades this semester given your current schedule, sign up for a difficult courseload for next year (which it seems you have), and get good grades for that semester.

Thinking of what could have been will not help you get an A in AP Chemistry.

i took one AP sophomore year and one AP junior year. So far, that hasnt negatively effected me. Just do your best: If you’re going to take that many APs make sure you can handle it and like the subjects or senior year will be torture. it shouldnt be that hard. I know colleges look at course loads of senior but dont come off as “I’m doing this for the college’s benefit”. I’ve seen many kids do this and still not get into their top choices.

“I signed up to take Physics I Honors, Spanish III Honors, AP Stat, AP Literature, AP Calc AB, and AP Bio next year. I am also taking AP Gov and Politics over the summer.”

I think the summer class will look nice. AP Bio is a lot of reading…but if you dont procrastinate and stay on top of things, ull be fine. Spanish III and Physics will probably be a low off 4 ya. AP Lit & Stat may be a challenge depending on the teacher. Good luck when it comes to Calc (Shakes with terror)

When I say 4-5, I mean total btw. I have a high A in Chem right now. I just hope the summer classes work, the guidance department is a little weird at my school.

I guess it also depends on the number of honor courses you’re currently taking and already taken. And your class rank is 15 out of how many??
Other than that, your GPA looked pretty good. Like those people said, an important thing is to take rigorous classes but maintain good As at the same time.
I’m currently a junior as well and I’m taking 6 AP/IB classes.@@
