AP Classes not offered early

My school doesn’t offer AP classes in sophomore year, and in junior year only allows APUSH (I think, might be a little more). Will this affect my chances when compared to others who have started AP classes in sophomore year or earlier as a result of their school’s course offerings?

If yes, should I begin self-studying (with a tutor)? I’ve read that self studying AP courses aren’t as good as taking the actual course, especially if your school offers it. Even though my school has a good chunk of potential AP courses for me to take, a huge chunk of them is barred from me until my later high school years. So, should I self study AP courses?

No. The high school will send a report along with your transcript that will tell colleges what the AP availability and eligibility is in your school. Colleges will not hold it against you because you didn’t take AP’s in your first two years.

If you have the time to self study for AP exams, you are better off using the time to prep for the SAT or ACTs OR to develop your ECs for more depth and challenge.

This is nothing to worry about. Your high school will send a report which explains their policies and puts your transcript into context.

Agree with the above. You cannot take a class that your HS does not allow you to, and it is not unique that HSs do not offer, or limit, AP classes for freshman/sophomores Colleges will evaluate in context.

In terms of self studying, colleges are not impressed, and your time is likely better spent elsewhere.

Prioritize studying and doing well in your classes, joining clubs/activities, and studying for PSAT/SAT.
