I heard that the UMich doesn't weight your GPA to take account AP classes. What if you take 12 AP classes and end up with a 3.6 unweighted GPA??? Would the UMich adcoms prefer someone who took like 2 AP classes and had a 3.9 or a 4.0 GPA? Is it still possible to be in the UMich Honors Program with a 3.6 GPA and 12 AP classes?

Bumpity bumpety bump. Alexandre?

They don't weight your GPA for AP classes, but they do consider your "strength of curriculum."

GPAs at Michigan are not weighed according to difficulty of curriculum. However, Michigan will take into consideration the toughness of your course selection. So do not worry, your efforts will be rewarded.

Oh yeah with a 3.6 you should still be fine, but TAKE THE AP TESTS!!!!!!! Many people tend to downplay the the importance of AP (at least in my experience), but you will learn that should you get 4s and 5s (and the occasional 3), you will test out of so many entry level classes, which at Michigan is definitely worth doing. Also, your scheduling is based on how many credits you have completed, so you get to schedule earlier. For example, I am a freshman this year, and I came in with 24 AP credits, and I got 4 more retroactive credits from german (I tested into 300 level and took a semester at Mich), plus I took 18 this semester (THAT was an accident because I did UROP, and when i signed up for it, I failed to realize it was an actual class), but I got to schedule for this upcomming semester really early and thus got all the classes I wanted. Also, testing out of entry level courses helps. I tested out of Chem 130, which is nice because I had more room for other courses (although I have orgo next semester...) The entry level math courses here ARE TERRIBLE, and if you can test out of them, do it. I took AB in high school and didn't have to take calc I here, but calc II was horrible, and I heard the same from many students taking calc I. Calc III supposedtly gets better because professors teach the class rather than foreign GSIs that don't speak english, can't teach, and don't know how to grade, but I have heard that after the intro sequence is complete, the math courses are amazing (sorry for the tangent...just venting frustrations after the worst semester of math I have ever had). Anyway, Your AP classes will definately prove worthwhile.

That was very sound advice. Being able to register earlier with upper class status is definitely a big plus. One of the down side at big State U's is getting in the classes/schedule of your choice.

Bump!!!!!!
