AP classes

Ok next year i have the option on taking AP english, stats, econ, and bio. (Just one ) ..

I want to know, how important are AP classes? Do i really need them or will college still require me to takr them?

Ive only taken AP calc. My gpa is 3.9 uw. And i plan to attend csu or UC, nothibg big

Well since you don’t plan on applying to a top school, it’s really not that important. But if you were, then I would suggest taking at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the total AP classes your school offers.

You can’t go wrong with AP Biology or AP English, both are very beneficial.

The reason most kids take AP classes is because they feel regular/honors classes don’t challenge them enough. If you feel this way, try taking one. If not, stay where you are. They aren’t that important if you’re not applying to selective colleges, but if you have a 3.9 GPA I’d strongly recommend taking some. Having such a high GPA with no AP classes makes it look like you’re “taking the easy way out”. Also they can be helpful in exempting you from more expensive college introductory classes.

So yea you guys say i should go for it? I just really dislike english classes. Despise reading and writing but im decent at it. Is it worth takinh a ap class even of i dont like it?

Ill think about it strongly i guess, thank you guys.

Any other tips or important info?

Don’t take AP classes if you’re not 100% in to it. If you don’t want to take AP English, don’t take it. I’m taking AP Biology next year, and I heard it’s a fun class, you should take AP Biology  At the end of the year, we get to dissect cats.

Nah. If you’re gonna take an AP class, it should be in a subject you enjoy. I learned that the hard way with APUSH.

English and History are my least favorite subjects but I am still taking AP English Lang. and AP European History next year. My reasoning behind English is that it is something I could really use some improving on.

Go for the subject you would actually enjoy learning. For instance, I love Biology and all the sciences for that matter, so I jumped at the opportunity of taking AP Biology.

Just because you’re not going to a “top” school does not mean AP classes are important. Taking AP classes can give you the leg up on other applicants. Showing colleges that you have a rigorous schedule may even make you qualified for their scholarships. Who doesn’t like free money? I say take AP.

Hahaha i agree with yankee, why take a demanding class you dont like. I love math so i took calc i did good.
Yes they will benefit i guess but ill be struggling along the way, why suffer trying just to improve and get by.

And you guys are pushing me for AP bio so ill look into it this week

Nope my school doesnt offer AP bio, so my choices are either english or gov/econ …

What do i go for

Well if you can stand it go for English. If not, good luck in some of the most factual AP’s one can take.

I agree with Niquii77. Like you, I don’t like reading or writing too much, but I am still going to take AP English Language for the challenge. I also want to show colleges that I’m not taking the easy path, but pushing myself and learning more. Not to mention if you pass the exam, you get a free college credit. Go for it!

The AP class you should take depends on your interests. I like math, so I’ll be taking AP Calc as well next year. It’ll be challenging, of course, but… yolo, lol.

I don’t think I will ever take AP English. I think that AP Biology, and AP statistics would be fun though.

Hahaha wow yolo? Lol … well since i do only live once i guess i wont take it because i dont want to suffer :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll go with ap econ and gov i guess … yea i understand about the college credit and its very catching but idk
