AP Classes

Hi, my school (and I believe other schools) allow for a student to not take an A.P. class, but take the A.P. Final Test. Can someone explain to me why exactly that would be an advantage, because I was thinking about doing this for one A.P. class (with tons of tutoring).
And would it look good or bad on a transcript if I have the A.P. test written down, but not that I actually took the class. Any help would be gladly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There’s no reason to self study an AP unless you’re actually interested in the subject or you want the credit- college admissions don’t look at applicants’ AP scores.

If the AP subject is not on your transcript, it serves little purpose in school applications. However, extra AP tests may make you AP scholar with honor or distinction by the time you apply for schools. In addition, it would give you more opportunity to receive credit or advance placement in college.

I have a friend who took Calc AB (the class) and he ended up taking the BC exam just because he was a Junior and they wouldn’t let him in BC. Thats pretty risky. Its like signing up for the Physics C test yet you only have the B class. Right? Ahaaaahahaa.

But yeah a lot of people take the exam without the class so that way they can take other AP classes. It seems challenging but only you know if you’re capable of doing it. Which exam do you wanna take without the course? Just curious.
