So I’m signing up for my classes for my Junior year and I want to take at least two AP classes. I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this thread, but I’m new here. Anyways, my school has seven, fifty-five minute periods everyday. I’m required to take four classes, but two of them can be AP. I’ve only taken one AP class, AP World History this year, and I was wanting some opinions on my planned schedule for next year to see what others think.
Sophomore Schedule:
AP World History
HAVPA (visual art credit requirement)
Agribiology (Biology)
Animal Science
English II
Pre-AP Geometry
Spanish II
Planned Schedule:
AP Lang. & Comp.
AP US History
AP Psychology
Pre-AP Algebra II
Anatomy
Floriculture
Chemistry
Pre-AP classes are just a weird thing my school has, they’re the same as normal classes. My school also has everything set up where I can’t take AP Biology or AP Chemistry until I pass normal Chemistry and Algebra II. I think the schedule, personally, is okay since Floriculture is a laid back class, but I could replace it with AP Human Geography. I’ve passed normal HG my Freshman year. I would’ve taken AP HG, but I didn’t know if I’d struggle with high school or not. Any advice?
APHG is, IMO, a waste of a class. Few private universities will give credit for it.
Depending on to which colleges you are planning on applying, and your career aspirations, the lack of Spanish in your schedule could hurt you.
I agree with the above. Personally, I would try to get at LEAST 3 years of Spanish. Most colleges want to see 4 years.
@southernbelle16 @skieurope Thanks. Regarding AP HG, some colleges around me give credit in Geography classes but I don’t think they’re a requirement for that college. I want to fit more Spanish into my schedule as well, but my school counselors said two years is usually enough so I’m not sure, but it’ll definitely give me something to consider. I’m going into Pharmacy so when I researched foreign languages didn’t seem to be a completely pressing concern.
Well, you should be worried about getting into college first. It doesn’t matter what you want do to get into college. Colleges will want to see 3-4 years of a foreign language. Don’t focus on the fact that you don’t “need” the extra years for pharmacy. I would highly suggest considering the extra 2 years of FL.
Iĺl probably end up replacing Floriculture with Spanish III. Still open to suggestions/opinions.
Selective colleges will want 3 (and to be competitive, 4) years of Spanish. Taking Spanish III will allow you to have more choices of colleges to apply to and better odds of admission, especially for competitive majors or schools.
Keep Floriculture if you need a “fun” class that helps you stand out, and take Spanish III instead of Anatomy (which is only really useful if you plan to go into Nursing, and only as a senior.)
