AP Classes

Hi everyone. As a risng senior, my course selection is already over with but I’m curious to see how many APs (and which ones) you all have/will have taken by the end of your high school career.

Personally, I’ll have 11 total:
AP Stats (10th)
AP Chem (11th)
AP Comp Sci A (11th)
AP Lang (11th)
AP USH (11th)
AP Comp Sci Principles (12th)
AP Physics 1 (12th)
AP Physics II (12th)
AP Calc BC (12th)
AP Lit (12th)
AP Spanish Lang (12th)

Looks similar to my kid’s. He took Bio in 10th and Physics C and Psych in 12th. No language AP and Comp Sci Principles isn’t offered.

6 APs?? That’s going to be a lot of homework for you. I’m assuming you plan to be the valedictorian and head off to a prestigious school?

This was my old plan:
AP Lang (11th)
AP Calc BC (12th)
AP Physics I (12th)

Unfortunately, I moved the summer before junior year and that really messed things up. Because my new school had harder academics, my counselor put me into all normal courses, even though I wanted all honors! >=( He then said that if I wanted to switch to honors, I could do so in the middle of the year. I tried doing this with Pre-Calc in an attempt to go to Honors PreCalc, but it was much more difficult because it would involve switching classes and I’d be missing a lot of material in other classes. I was forced to stay in my PreCalc class and only got recommended to do AP Calc AB, even though my intention was to do AP Calc BC. That’s the only AP I’ll be doing, but I wanted to challenge myself further.

If I have any advice to give you regarding your future childrens’ high school careers, don’t move while they’re in high school. Moving in elementary and middle school is fine because it won’t matter as much, but a move during high school years can turn your child from an Ivy League student to a state university student.

APHG (9)

AP Physics C: Mechanics (12)
AP Physics C: E&M (12)

Seems like a lot for senior year, but Gov and Econ are during the same class period on alternating days, and Physics C is one class for both exams. CSA is known for being low-workload, as is APES.

In retrospect 6 APs for my kid in 12th was very tough for the first 2 months but ok after that. Physics C E&M and Literature kicked his butt completely for his first 3 exams and he never recovered during the first semester. It was his fault though for not doing all of his essays during the precious summer like he should have. Plus he also took 2 college classes during the fall as well and was teaching a class.

1 freshman, 0 sophomore, 4 junior, 5 senior. So 10.

@simberry2 Yeah, everyone calls me crazy for taking that many lol. Sucks that you only get to take one AP, at least you’ll probably kill it!

@awesomepolyglot Jesus Christ, that’s every science AP except physics 2.

My d’s school only offers IB. Through a mixture of self-study/online classes, she will have written 7 AP exams by graduation.

My only comments would be that it is a lot senior year, so do just brace yourself (though i’d Assume your like me, and you won’t back down, and will ace them all anyway) - and if you have a college in mind, check and see how many credits your actually allowed to come in with. My school limits me to 45 Ap credits, and I have more than that- so I can’t use them all. But best of luck! Not that you’ll need it as long as you work hard  (and do try to sleep some :-p).
