Hello everyone!
How many ap classes do you think is enough for top 50 schools? I’m planning on applying to t-50 colleges and I’m going to be taking around 10 ap classes total in high school. Is that enough? Too much? Too less? Let me know!
My AP’s:
World History
American History
English Language
Psychology
Physics 1
Biology
Chemistry
Spanish Language
US Gov
Calc AB
The number of AP’s don’t really matter, you should take a rigorous schedule based on what your school offers. If you already know what schools you’re considering, check which ones they offer credit for - and whether that credit will count toward your degree. For instance, few offer credit for Physics 1, and it won’t count toward most science or engineering degrees. If it is your only physics class, it covers only the first half of what a typical honors class would cover, just more in depth (but still not Calculus based). Remember that many schools at that level won’t care about your weighted GPA (because different schools use different weights), and will care more about specific classes - they know which AP courses truly live up to the AP standard, and which don’t. Also keep in mind if you can’t keep up an A in your AP class, but can in the honors class, your GPA will suffer - even weighted.
A rigorous schedule depends on what is offered by the school. But for those with many, the marginal value gets small after about 8 core/meaningful courses. You look to have about 8.
But college admissions isn’t about counting numbers. A “rigorous schedule” isn’t just the number of AP courses (though it’s obviously a big contributor).
