Ap Classes?

How Many Ap Classes Should I Be Taking As A Sophomore? Junior? Senior? To Be A Strong Candidate For Ib League College?

Aps = admission is a very big misconseption. I know many a people who got into IVY's with no ap's. But if you have the oppourtunity take as many AP's as you think you can get a 3 on. I took 1 as a sophmore 1 as a junior and i'm going to take 2 this year. but thats just me

I think, in general, colleges don't necessarily look at the number of AP courses you've taken- they look at the number you've taken compared to what is actually offered at your school. They want to see that you are challenging yourself and taking the most demanding workload possible. A student who goes to a school that only offers one AP class can obviously only take one AP class... but that is the best they could do under the circumstances, and so might still get into a top tier/Ivy school...

My school, on the other hand, offers tons of AP classes. A blessing and a curse, really. Great because there's tons of stuff to learn and participate in, but bad because any top universities I apply to will expect to see me taking as many as I can handle.

Having said all that, I took 5 AP classes my junior year, and I will be taking 5 more this year (my senior year).

Just my thoughts... hope it helps!

The way I see it, the number of AP's you "should" have taken in your high school career should be based on the number of AP's offered in the school. Personally, the number offered is thirteen, though 3 of these I wouldn't have the pre reqs for, gov didn't fit in my schedule twice and the fifth would take too much time [Studio Art, and I probably wouldn't have done well], so that by the time I graduate I took 1 AP course my junior year and 5 my senior year which is a good chunk of what is offered to me. Also, our school only allows juniors and seniors to take AP's [with a limited amount of choices for the juniors]. So really the number that you "should" take I feel is based on what you can take because if your school doesn't even have the AP program then "there shouldn't be pressure on you to take them" [note quotes] but then there's always self-studying, so, take what you want from this.
