AP Classes?

Right now I'm still wavering between taking AP Language and Composition & AP Biology. Neither class would be a cakewalk for me:
AP Lang (struggling with timed essays, takes me an hour to finish three paragraphs)
AP Bio (55 chapters sound intimidating, especially since I'm bad at retaining information)

Unfortunately I can only decide between these two, can any of you give me some advice or just some general information (difficulty, what you do in each class, etc.)? Thanks

Well I just finished AP English Language and felt it was one of the more useless classes I have taken. We did a lot of 40 minute timed writings but our pathetic teacher just gave us a grade back with zero explanation as to why we got that grade. Then we had to do a lot of annotating which is looking for rhetorical devices and stuff like hyperboles, similes, personification, zeugma, ad hoc fallacies etc in a passage and identifying them. We didn’t really get overwhelmed with work but it felt like a pointless class.

As for AP Bio I didn’t take it I just took honors biology…learning about life.

My class moved at a decent pace in AP Bio (with the exception of two MONTHS during basketball season - my teacher is/was the coach) and we didn’t get anywhere near the 55 chapter mark. I would take bio and buy a cliffs prep book. If you do that, you will get a 4 or 5 depending on your study habits with cliffs.

I have a couple of friends that took AP Biology as well as the AP English Language exam and they felt the english one was a lot easier. I took that exam as well and didn’t have much difficulty with it even though english is my best subject. If you want college credit I think AP English Language is the way to go unless you are significantly better at science than english.

The difficulty and content is very inconsistent from school to school, especially for AP Lang. Ask people at your school. The AP Bio test was easier for me than the AP Lang test, and I didn’t take AP Bio.

Personally, I would rather take AP Bio because I prefer science to English.

I took both AP Lang and AP Biology last year. Honestly, AP English is A LOT easier than AP Biology (in my opinion). AP Biology was kind of fun though, our teacher took us to the zoo while we were learning zoology/ecology and then we dissected animals too. AP English is a lot of essays and reading small essays haha. Our text book was called like 200 Essay’s or something, I don’t remember, but we had to read an essay and write an essay about it under 45 mintutes then do multiple choice questions. They are both completely diverse topics and very different (since in AP Biology you don’t have to worry about writing 5 paragraphs, you can write it in 3 sentences if you answer the question). In the end, I got A’s in both classes but my AP English grade was a lot higher (AP Biology I got a 90% and in AP English I got a 94%).

Thanks you all for your replies!
I’ve decided to take AP Language instead and reserve AP Biology for senior year. Gotta practice writing over the summer ;P
