I know that the format of the test has changed. Should I get an old AP Comp Sci AB book or wait til a new edition of AP Comp Sci comes out. I'm also thinking about self-studying for AP Comp Sci. Is it hard because I have little programming background. What other textbooks do you recommend. Thanks.

Well, you really should take the class if you are not used to programming - it makes it seem like an immersion setting

I got a 5 on comp sci A and the textbook i used was Fundamentals of Java published by Thomson Brooks Cole

Our school wont have ap comp sci this year because of the lack of students. Will comp sci be hard?

Like he said, basic programming is something you really have to be immersed in to learn. It’s possible to self-study, don’t get me wrong, but you are going to have to do more than just read the textbook and do a few practice tests.

And yes, you do need to have an actual textbook. You can’t possibly start with the AP practice book; you just will not be able to understand it without first learning some.

If you wish to self study you should download a Java IDE and actually try making some programs or applications yourself.

You also will need to download the files for the GridWorld Case Study (unless they deicde to change it for 2010 but I doubt it)
