AP Comparative Government Study Thread 2011

basic political theories and structure? Oh my…

So, uhhh. What’s everyone been up to? I just started to study. I’m doing China right now, but since this is my first read-through I haven’t gone into much detail.

The test is May 10th in the afternoon, for those of you who haven’t checked/are too lazy to.

Anybody have questions/comments on anything?

Also, anybody who actually has a class, and is not self-studying, what are you doing right now/did if it was a one semester class?

I am independent studying and using the What You Need to Know and Ethel Woods’ too. I also had a school-issued textbook but it was really dense and very unhelpful.

I was wondering how much current events is everyone incorporating? I get UN Wire briefs (e-mail newsletters that are a collection of summaries and links to articles about international events) and am reading all articles that relate to the six countries, but is that enough?

i’m taking the course through Virtual Virginia so i’ll be joining you guys in May

How is everybody doing?

I finished with one read through of Ethel Woods, about to start on the second, perhaps try some practice questions.

Concentrating on my other APs though =/.

Holy crap. I was the one who made this thread and I JUST started reading, like literally. Im on the intro of Ethel’s book. I’m so stupid. How long did it take for your read-throughs?

As a student who took the AP Comp Gov exam last year, I can assure you all that if you studied Ethel Wood and feel confident about the information in that book, you will do just fine.

Ethel Wood’s guide is all you need to secure a 5.

Hi again everyone, just finished Wood’s book the other day, but haven’t done any of the full practice tests in it yet. Took me about 2 1/2 weeks, but I wasn’t reading every day, and I was taking quite a lot of notes.

I’m bumping this

I too am self-studying just from the Ethel Wood book. To review, I was going to write out a giant poster with a huge table on it with all the countries and all the info we need to know

Hey guys, does any of you have any full length practice exams? I can’t seem to be able to find any…

(except for the ones in the Ethel Wood book, I mean)

I’m in a class.

Here as some things you guys should cover.

The United Kingdom:

 • Parties & Social Class
 • Parliament (Know the system)
 • Law in England (Common Law, Judicial Review)
 • Intergeneration within the EU. (How it effects Soveriegnity)
 • AV Voting System. It recently got rejected and the Liberal Democrats, a minority currently won’t be seeing and positive outcomes as it lost a lot of it’s constituencies.
 • Devolution. Welsh Parliament. Scottish Parliament.

Russia:

 • Autocratic History and why the Slav’s don’t seem to mind.
 • Cult of Personality around Leaders (Lenin-Stalin-Putin)
 • Economy (Privatized and now seeing growth: Formula 1 teams, High-Tech Universities)
 • Where will it go Liberal Democracy or Illiberal Democracy?
 • Putin has gripped onto the Federation, allowing himself to fire leaders of the regions.
 • Free Media (or lack of)
 • The Changes he has made to electoral system. 7% cut off vote for the Duma, highest in Europe and it favors his party, United Russia.

Alright, I’m gonna practice my essays right now  If you guys want some more highlights on what to study ask up, exam is coming soon.

gonna study it this weekend. wooo

Hey,
If anyone has ANY practice exams, can they PLEASE send them? I’m self-studying the exam and I’m learning 60% of it this weekend, today and tomorrow.

Whats is Russia’s Electoral system? PR or FPTP?

Russia’s Duma is decided by PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION. Hey, would you happen to have any useful materials for the exam, especially audit/past exams?

I just started Russia today…omg im done.

Haha… I just started GB last night. This is terrible…

I’m working on my 4th country right now. How many have you guys done? I still have 2 complete ones to get done after…

I’ve done all of them, I can correctly answer all the question related to why and how their government forms, but when it comes to questions such as … . “What commonalities do the Representatives and Senators of Nigeria have?” I completely blank out.

If anyone want’s question answers feel free to do so.

What’s the difference between state and neo-coporatism?

Russia had a mixture of prop. And fptp representation but eliminated prop. In 2006 or 2007.

I just took the practice exam and it was impossible, lol. I haven’t reviewed the countries yet, so hopefully I’ll do better Tuesday.
