AP Comparative Government Study Thread

I haven't seen one of these...and I can't be the only one here taking this test. If you are taking it, post here. I'll follow the same format as the other study threads and post a question with possible answers. Next person, choose what you think is the answer and post another question! :)

Mexico has a more advanced economy than Iran or Nigeria because it:
A) has greater oil wealth
B) lacks any significant cleavages that lead to violence
C) has a greater infrastructure and a beneficial location near liberal democracies
D) avoids splits between the executive and legislative branches
E) lacks serious crime problems

A and E is wrong.
Iran actally has more oil, overall and in the amount it exports.
Plus, crimewise, Mexico, Iran, and Nigeria are all about the same that it's pretty grim, but if you substitute crime with corruption, then it would be correct.
I would negate C, because of the phrase "It has greater infrasturcture" because its still in the works plus patron-client sux0rs!

B is reasonable, because they doesn't have any religious cleavages but that doesn't exempt it from others because Iran doesn't have one either.

D sounds reasonable, only because presidentialismo is pretty strong but if I remember correct, this is only correct for Iran, UK, and US. Even for, China.

So, I would pick B

The answer's C. The reason is simply that there ARE religious problems, especially with the indigenous people, such as in the Chiapas region. Their location closer to a liberal democracy helps them (NAFTA, for example), as does their (better) infrastructure. Infrastructure just means roads/schools/etc. and they have more/better of these than does Nigeria or Iran. By the way, D is wrong because of the PAN president and PRI majority in the lower house (Chamber of Deputies).

Now post your own question with options. :)
