Hello, CC! I've been a longtime lurker and finally have a question that's worth asking- should I take AP Computer Science or AP Enviro next year? My schedule has been submitted except for this last spot, and everything worked out perfectly so that I'm guaranteed a spot in whichever I choose. My current schedule looks like this:

AP Chemistry
AP Biology
AP US History
AP English Lang.
Honors Precalc
Newspaper 3 (Managing editor)
Spanish 3
+ either CompSci or Enviro.

My interests are split between the two. I've been into programming since I was little, although time constraints haven't let me do it as much the past few years, and I'm by no means a pro. My extracurriculars would definitely support AP Enviro better, as I'm the captain of our very competitive Envirothon team and president of ecology club. However, I don't love the teacher and am a little afraid of being bored in class. AP CompSci, in my school at least, has a reputation of being harder than Enviro, which is neither really here nor there. Also, another thing turning me off Enviro is that it seems a lot of colleges don't give any credit for it.

Any suggestions/ tips? Anything is appreciated.

AP Environmental Science is an extremely easy class, so there are good reasons why colleges don’t give you credit for it. Besides that, you’re taking the two hardest AP Science courses, there’s no need for you to take AP Environmental unless it’s a field of study you personally want to pursue.

It really depends on what you want to pursue in your future. But as a general statement of the present, taking AP Computer Science would help supplement your Math course. Or, you can take AP Statistics. The AP Comp Sci teacher at my school happened to be an extreme nerd who made the class unbelievably difficult. Kids failed his class and got 4s and 5s on the APs or something. So a lot of students leaned towards doubling Pre Calc with AP Stats rather than AP Comp Sci.

If no colleges give you credit, I say take AP CompSci. Plus, I find at least with my colleges I am applying to, I have to either take AP Chem, Bio, or Enviro to get credits for the science courses I would be taking with my major. This may not be the same for you, but if it is then you already have Bio and Chem.

However, if you enjoy Envirothon and all I say then take Enviro. I mean, if you know a bit about it and AP Enviro I hear is easy already I say take that.
