Hello
I took AP CS "A" sophomore [last] year with an awesome teacher and got a "4" on the AP.
This year I have a horrible teacher for the "AB" level, and I received a B for first semester [i got a B+ sem1 and A sem2 last year for "A"].
I'm not learning a lot of new stuff..if i got a "4" on the A exam what would I most likely receive if I don't learn much from "AB"?
I'm considering dropping the class, since I'm not learning much and I'm going to get a B again most likely
Thanks in advance!

Do you think you can pull off a 4 or 5 on the AB?

My teacher didn't even know Java. We crammed 1 month before the exam (learned nothing first 7...) and pulled out a 3.....

that's what i'm asking, glucose. I dunno how well I'd do this year. thanks for the reply!

try sample tests, and see if you're comfortable...if not get out, but that seems risque (to get out of the class).

You will surely fail that AP test if the teacher isn't good. So at this point you will have to teach yourself some of the material if necessary. I remember doing AP Computer Science and I had a horrible teacher for it. Thankfully I still got a 4 on the AP exam. But today, I am a phenomenal programmer and know multiple languages well. =D

"You will surely fail that AP test if the teacher isn't good."

nope, but it sure is a hell of a lot harder. You do have to study on your own.

If you got a 4 on the A, without learning a lot of new material, you may get a 2 on the AB. The AB deals with abstract data types, basically manipulating objects into linking with eachother. The A does not prepare you at all. I have looked at a practice test, and there are very few questions dealing with the A curriculum. Just teach yourself, it is possible. Make sure that you are really good at writing your own code for trees, stacks and everything, because on the free response section it asks you to change something about them. THey said that most people were unable to alter from the straight forward coding and received low open response answers.

My bro was in the same class as me (taking Comp Sci AP A); he was taking Comp Sci AP AB (he was the only one). He got a 5, but he is REALLY good at programming, so I don't know what to tell you. You should finish the year, I think. May take the AP test, maybe not, depending on how you feel (and if you have $).

the binary tree thing is driving me insane . . .

this exam is not that bad except the multiple choice with recursion. but nonetheless, good luck to you all tomorrow =]

aahhhh! MC with recursion is the bane of my existence...sigh

ha i was actually waiting for this thread :)

my teacher barely taught anythin this whole year...very much screwed here. lol

i hate MBS...and heaps... argg.

heaps are not so bad

MBCS is...evil...
and really really STUPID

ditto...the case study is so dumb...well its the test is in about 10 hours so good luck to everyone

aaaahhhhh...dies test...sigh...

The one good thing = you can lie out of you ass about how good you did, and if you are a senior, your teach wont know til you are gone.

1) how well you did (sorry, pet peeve)
2) don't they send your scores to your school???
3) why would you lie? isn't that kinda lame?

binary trees, recursion, etc = fun. we had a teacher who teaches a college algorithms and data structures class.

mbs case study = death.

bstrees = fun recursion = death mbcs = boring and pointless

but overall cs = very fun
