i heard UMD only accepts a 5, but if i get a 4 i can test out of the basic programming class…

“Credit will be given for either the A or the AB exam but not both. Credit may be earned for both the C++ and Java exams. Students receiving an acceptable score on the Java exam (5 on A, 4 or 5 on AB) are exempt from CMSC131.”
so i have to get a 5? i heard i can test out of CMSC131 if i got a 4 @maryversity

You can take a placement test to place out of 131. But if you couldn’t get a 5 on the AP exam it is unlikely that you will be able to pass the exemption exam as they are very difficult and you can only take them once. Also make sure you really know the material, don’t just memorize it for the test, otherwise you will flounder in 132 and later courses. http://undergrad.cs.umd.edu/exemption-exams
If you want to see what is actually taught in 131 you can go here and click on the class. You can view the projects and syllabus, etc for some classes (some are locked if you are not enrolled).
