I’m currently taking AP World History and AP CompSci. My CompSci teacher stopped teaching us things that would be on the AP test, and instead has been teaching us App Development because he believed it was more beneficial to us outside of previous content, which would just help us pass the test. Although my CompSci teacher gave us the resources to still learn the test, I decided not to keep up with it because I’d rather focus more on the AP World History test, as AP CompSci test isn’t accepted at a lot of colleges. I told my dad about a week ago I wasn’t really interested in taking the AP CompSci test, and he was alright with it; however, when I told my mom, she got really mad at me and said I just wasted my time in the class. I didn’t have a choice to take the class (another long story), and I only want to do the test if it’s something I’m honestly interested in, and, to be honest, I’m not.
There seem to be more cons pointing toward taking the test then pros, so I was wondering if anyone else was thinking about taking the test, and if not, why?
I’m not in comp sci but I know a lot of people who chose not to take the AP test for a subject. I would only take if you want to, or if it’s free like at my school. If it’s free than at the very least you got a gpa boost and you might get college credit.
I don’t know why you think AP comp sci isn’t accepted by a lot of colleges- it is.
I’m currently taking AP CompSci and will be taking the exam, and honestly I think it’s worth a shot if you got a reasonable amount of the curriculum done. Maybe have a look through an exam prep book and see how much you’ve covered, so you’ll be able to estimate how much prep you would actually need.
As long as you paid attention and did your homework, you should at least get a 3 on the exam.
If you’re in it up to now, you may as well go through with the test. Too late to just say, “meh”.
Also, lots of schools accept AP CompSci for units. There might be some here and there that don’t, so just be sure to check in with all your choices; for the most part, they do.
