I'm thinking of taking this class, but it teaches Java, and I know a lot of code monkeys out there do not take a liking to Java. The thing is, I'm not sure if it is worth taking this class. I am majoring in physics/astornomy, and am considering learning a more sophisticated language in college, so would this be a good use of time? Thanks.

Java is good.
I suggest python for science.
Go learn python lol.

Java is a good introduction to object oriented programming. Perl and Python are also pretty fun to mess around in, but I’m not sure about their professional usage (besides scripting). C, C++, and C# are a little more powerful (and more widespread) depending on what you want to do. Lisp is the language in which the universe was formed.

I suggest C++.

I don’t know how useful Java is, but APCS is a really fun course. Some of the assignments are challenging and can require you to think, but there is rarely homework, at least at my school. And the teacher is awesome!

I’m taking APCS right now, and it’s so much fun. If anything, it’s a good basic intro to programming, and chances are you’ll enjoy it.

I’ll let you know if my opinion changes when I get the quiz I just took back…

JAVA is a good programming for beginners, although it tends to go obsolete if u get to the higher level of programming due to its large memory usage. But i would recommend ppl to learn it.

APCS the class itself wasnt fun for me. It is the coding games during free time class that was fun lol

You should definitely take the course: not because it teaches Java, but because you get an idea of how OOP works. I’d imagine, as a physicist, you could benefit quite a bit if you had even a rough understanding of programming languages.

Also, if you’re doing AP CS A, it’s actually really, really easy - you can get a 5 studying for only 2 hours/week on your own.
