I'm taking AP Computer Science this year, and from friends who've taken it in past years, I've heard that the teacher does not help you get a 5 on the AP at all. So, I want to get some books and basically teach myself outside of school. I already have the Barron's book, but I was wondering what other books, if any, would help me get a 5? And when should I start preparing for the AP? Thank you!

Go see the official thread for this year. You might want to take Amplify’s APCS MOOC instead of at your school, so you can learn something else at school, or just use it as help. Barron’s is all you really need, unless you want extra practice later on.
