AP Computer Science

Hey guys. Is AP computer science worth taking. I’ve heard multiple things about its usefulness and difficulty. I don’t plan on pursuing a career in computer software and Photoshop is the most difficult thing I know how to do on a computer. I have good language, math, and logic skills though. Additional insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

It isnt a super hard course compared to some other AP courses. If you have zero prior knowledge though I don’t know that you’d do well (in my school you have to test in or take a beginner course first so i think prior knowledge is helpful). If you’re good at math and have an empty spot in your schedule give it a shot. Comp sci is a good skill to have.

@lonelymoonlight Thanks. I’ve heard multiple things about the class. You’ve helped clear it up.

I highly recommend for you to take it. It will help you out for any future occupation you have in the job industry since computers are widely used. You will take away programing skills in the java language that will also impress college admission officers if you pass the exam since not a lot of students take AP Computer Science A yet. If you have zero programing experience I recommend purchasing “Head First Java” by Kathy Sierra and go over the book during ht summer so you know what to expect for the actual class. The class material is not hard at all to learn. The hard part is using all the different tools you learn to solve a given problem; the logic part of the class. This is not so hard to master if you practice your coding skills and apply your knowledge; CodingBat.com is a great way of doing so. The pass rate for this class is pretty good and about 22% get 5’s. I think you should take it.
