Hey, I was wondering how hard is the math in AP Computer Science. I will be taking an intro to computer science this summer and am nervous about the math, as math is not my strongest subject.
The math is very easy. If you took algebra 1 you will be fine. If you are good at logic and willing to work hard you will do great in the class!
I took AP Computer Science this year…but had to drop. She forgot to tell our class that we needed to be in at least precalculus before we took her class.
There were 1-2 people who were in algebra 2, but they were an exception because they have been coding for years. I know one person who stuck it out and has an A (she’s in honors algebra 2) but she’s pretty smart.
I would talk to the teacher that teaches AP Computer Science at your school and see what they say. The difficulty varies from school to school. Like, for example, AP Computer Science A (our school doesn’t have CS Principles) is regarded as the difficulty level of AP Physics C at my school.
I personally am in calculus, but I do not think that has effected my grade. The majority of my class is in algebra 2
You don’t need high level math, just logic skills.
What AP CS class do you mean?
AP CS A or AP CS Principles?
Idk why your teacher would say that. I’m in Algebra 2 and my only experience to coding before APCS was the prerequisite class, Adv. Computer Math and it basically an intro to java class.
Honestly the math is not hard. There is almost no math. It’s logic and simple algebra, but it is good to know what a logarithm is.
There is very little math, only basic logic.
If you can understand that (1+1)2 and 1+12 have different answers, you should be fine.
Math in computer science really only comes up later on, early courses like AP Computer Science utilize very little math, rather focusing more on logic.
