I will be taking AP computer science principles next year and I’m really nervous because I really want to gets 5. What are some resources I can use? Any tips? How can I prepare?
It’s a fairly easy class, especially in relation to most other AP classes. Like all AP classes, there are a ton of prep books on say Amazon that you can buy.
If a college gives AP credit for AP CSP (and many don’t), it’s for a very low level class that probably won’t benefit you in your degree plan. I would put energy into studying for your AP math, history, and English classes, instead.
The fact remains though only 14% get 5’s on computer science principles. Just my opinion easier is a relative term. More kids get 5’s in Calc BC. I do agree with the many books on amazon. As who do give credit that does vary. Although most people would take the credits if it saves money.
Nicki20 - This is why I mentioned to put time and effort into AP math, history, and English. Those may give you college credit. I don’t know of anyone who was able to use AP CSP for credit on their college degree plan. I suspect the percentage of 5s is low because kids know the score doesn’t matter, and they study for the other exams, instead. AP Calc BC students are already good math students so it makes sense the percentange of 5s is higher.
Thanks for the info. However, I do plan to put lots of work in it. What are some books that I can use?
Also, next year I’m taking 5 other college level classes in addition to APCSP
AP CS principles is a general overview introduction to CS, suitable for both prospective CS majors and non-CS majors; for the latter, it should help give an idea of how CS relates to other subjects. It is not generally considered a difficult course, and should be suitable for students with no prior experience.
http://cs10.org is a college course that is one of the models for AP CS principles.
I agree many colleges don’t give or partially give for AP Principles. AP CS programming sure is more meat for money. Principles is not very useful and may be just to boast number of APs
