Has anyone taken the APCS exam before. If you have can you please tell me how it is like. i am going to be taking it this year and i feel so confident that i am not going to pass because my teacher did not prepare us well. so if any of you can please give me your insight i would greatly appreciate it.

Haha I did pretty terribly on that test last year. My teacher definately didn't prepare us for it at all. In fact, it was so bad that the entire class (which included the valedictorian and salutadorian for both the class of 04 and the class of 05, and lots of other top students) got a 1 on the AP test. Not even kidding, frickin ONEs for all of us. And somehow that same teacher is still teaching APCS. When 3/4 of the class has an A but they all gets 1s, you know the teacher isn't doing his or her job correctly.

But yeah on the test they make you write programs that do certain things that none of us had any idea how to do. Most of us ended up drawing lots of pictures that were completely irrelevant. That's half the test and the other half is multiple choice questions which we also had no idea how to do. Oh well, at least we got to leave school after the test was over.

Sorry I can't be of more help, my class got screwed over, and it sounds like you might be too. Good luck anyways. If you're a senior going to UCLA next fall (which I think we all are) I wouldn't stress too much. Just enjoy your last month of high school.

CS is one of those exams that seems like it's either really easy because you were already a programmer before coming into the class and getting a 5 was a rubber stamp, or it's really difficult because you're not a programmer and you have an incompetent teacher. (Seems like there are a lot of incompetent AP CS teachers, but maybe that's just my impression)

"Most of us ended up drawing lots of pictures that were completely irrelevant." LOL.
but yeah thats too bad u were forced to take the test. =/

"but yeah thats too bad u were forced to take the test. =/"

Yeah, it was a good way to waste $82. My school requires you to take the test for every AP class, even if you know you're gonna fail. They bill you either way, and if you don't show up to take it they dock your grade in that class. Yeah I'll be glad to leave this place.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of incompetent APCS teachers. Most are probably like mine, they had experience in the software industry but were laid off for some reason and went into teaching as a last resort... Not the best way to get qualified teachers.

One thing during the test that was really funny was my friend was trying to communicate to the whole class how badly he had to use the bathroom without talking at all, mouthing words and using gestures. Haha poor guy...

Anyone else really not looking forward to AP tests this year? I got Calc AB tomorrow and Spanish on Weds., both of which I'll probably pass, then Gov't and Phys. B next week. Gov't I'll pass, phys. maybe, maybe not.

I've always wondered this..what is computer science. I never took the AP class for it even though i was eligible because of the word science...anything dat has to do with math/science scares me..hahaha..no im just better at english and history

wow.. your story matches mine jonez! it's quite sad. i'm passing the class with flying colors and yet i'm totally unprepared for the AP exam. and yes my school requires you to take the test too. and this is the first year my school is offering APCS so i couldn't get feedback from previous years about it prior to signing up. but then again, asking people from other schools after i noticed that you either did get a 5.. or a 1 sadly. i'm so screwed it's so sad.

but anyway, APCS is programming using the java language, i believe 3 years ago or something it was C++ though.

jonez, i took the calc ab and physics b tests last year. i wouldn't worry too much about it. i didn't think i'd pass either one, but surprise surprise i actually did quite well, haha.

Yup, Java programming pretty much. And after getting an A in the class I really can't program anything useful.

My class was the first APCS class at my school as well. Oh well, at least I was able to tell friends not to take it, and I learned that I'm totally not into all that programming stuff. North Campus for me, haha.
