This is a REALLY stupid question but... do you have to take the AP course to take the exam? OR can you just take the exam and study for it with a prep book?

You can sign up for any exam, but you might have to take it at a location other than your school.

Yes you have to get a B or higher in the corresponding AP course, why do you think the curves are always so harsh?

I don’t know, I don’t quite understand how AP exams work. My school doesn’t offer any AP courses, but some of the colleges I’m applying to accept AP but not CLEP.

I’m just kidding you can self-study, you don’t have to take the course.

Oh! I feel stupid, but thank you. :)

When you self-study, you have to find a high school that will allow you to take the test. It hasn’t been a problem for my homeschooled son, but you have to do it pretty early, like in January after the semester starts.

thank you GeekMom. Do I just call the AP services?

You can either call AP services and ask for nearby schools or you can go straight to the local high schools and ask them.
