It's so much more than that too. Asia has had a very rich history, different from the West yet equally worthy of study. But most importantly, Asia is the rising center of world power. By the middle of the 21st century, India and China will be rivals on par with the United States. Throughout the 21st century, geopolitics and international economics will both have very key focal points in Asia. Today's high school students will be inhabiting a world equally dominated by Asian and Western societies. It's critical that they gain an understanding of the historical forces that have shaped Asian society, and how Asian history applies to the modern world.

AP World history is sorely lacking, however. It's very trendy in that it emphasizes patterns in history, social trends, and a generally more sociological bent on history. However, that also makes it useless as a good in-depth survey course for Asian history. Students need a solid, factually grounded, and specific course. Just as European history is.
