AP courses and other questions!

Hey guys, I'm very new here so if I've posted this in the wrong place or something I'm sorry! I'm 15 and an uprising junior. Not gonna lie, I haven't been very smart with my high school academic career choices so far. I moved from China last year (after finishing 9th grade) and came to America for the first time and had no idea about the school life. Unfortunately, I had to take the 9th grade Biology class here (even though I had a 90 in Science in my old school, I had to take it in New York because of the "Regents" or something..). I am now skipping the 10th grade Science class and going into Honors Chemistry because I did well in the Biology class, but there are many students who are taking Physics now! I'll always be behind..

Anyways, I'm going into Honors Pre-calc also, which I'm fairly happy about since many of the other students are going into Trigonometry so I'm a little ahead of the other kids here. I am also going into Honors English and take Honors Latin and Spanish. As you have probably noticed..I have no AP courses! And I'm a junior! Should I panic? I go to a classic New York public school..I was told nothing about where to register for AP courses and with 4400 other students, all the guidance counselors are busy and can never help me out! I know I can take AP Physics and AP Calculus in my senior year, but just how badly is this going to affect me? I tried to take the hardest courses but have no APs so being in honors doesn't really count for anything I guess. Would really appreciate any help on the matter, I'm so nervous! I could try going to a guidance counselor and explaining my situation but I highly doubt I can get into an AP class now.. :(

Any advice/opinions on the situation? Thanks in advance!

You’re right on track for science. Most of the kids at my school don’t take chem until junior year.

Don’t worry about not being able to take an AP until next year. Colleges want to see that you’ve done the best with what you were given.

relax, youll get a chance. many dont take any ap classes. the fact you are going to says a lot already :)

Thanks a lot for your reply! I have practically all honors in Junior year, you think taking 3-4 APs in senior year would be enough? I don’t have to go to the best of the best schools but I want to get into fairly decent colleges. I could’ve taken AP US history but that would be useless since I want to be a Biomedical or Electrical engineer

Your english is excellent considering you’ve only been in the US for a year.

3-4 is an ideal amount. You won’t be overloaded, but you won’t be taking an easy course load.

I agree with a previous poster, your English is great considering you’ve only been here a year. There are grown adults who have lived here their whole lives and still haven’t mastered the English language as well as you.

I really appreciate it! Feels good to be acknowledged for something I’ve worked hard on. And thanks for all the responses, at least now I have some satisfaction with the courses I have taken and know that I won’t end up getting rejected by all colleges I apply to!

Yes, I agree. Your English is excellent!! :)
