AP Courses

I have a big issue with my courses right now.I only have 1 ap course júnior year and i feel it is not satisfactory to colleges.my friends this year took about 2-4 courses and while i have a higher period Gpa then them colleges will accept indivduals with more ap.i couldnt handle 1 ap and 1 hnrs sophomore year so i took 1 ap this year.i am doing good so far but i feel that my friends have a greater Chance at colleges.i am thinking about taking 3 ap next year but by senior year my admissions would be sent so i doubt ir theres any point i should take more to challenge myself.

If you can handle it go for it. I took one AP history course as A sophomore, ap us history (only ap class offered to sophomores) got a’s throughout the year and got a 4 on the test. This year I’m taking 3 Ap’s (Lang, Calc, and world) then next year I’ll be taking 3-4 (lit, (maybe self study stat and or environmental sci.), spanish, bio). Its up to you and what you can handle as well as what your trying to do in college. If you want to go a competitive school, be a competitive applicant by taking competitive classes.

If you take three APs in your senior year, the schools will know that because you tell them what your senior schedule is. You may be at a disadvantage because your guidance counselor has to rate your academic program against that of your peers and it sounds like you may not fall into the ‘toughest available coursework’ category (or whatever the official name for it is). And it may or may not impact your class rank depending on whether your school calculates it and how. (Do AP classes get an extra point added to their GPAs?)

But finally, and most important, you will be evaluated as an individual. If you are applying to state schools, the criteria are different than if you are applying to selective privates. Your decision to take more or fewer APs may or may not matter depending on where you are hoping to end up, and what else you have to offer. Since there isn’t a lot you can do about it right now, focus instead on finding schools that are the best fit for your personal needs and situation rather than what everyone else is doing and how they compare to you.
