first off i am really sorry if this is in the wrong forum becoz i dont where to put it. My question is that is it recommended for me to take AP courses such as psych and history (world or us), if i want to go to an engineering school. I know that colleges look at the number of AP’s people take, but I am doing HL sciences in IB and AP calc in my senior year. Apart from that the school offers a lot of useless courses like biology and environmental sciences. Is it recommended for me to take them even if they really don’t make a difference on my resume just to show that I take rigorous courses?
If you want to go to a really selective engineering school, they will check if you challenged yourself all four years and took the most rigorous schedule you could. That usually means taking numerous APs or other high-level courses.
If you’re not aiming for selective schools it may not matter as much. But engineers still have to be able to write, interpret, communicate, and think–all skills taught by intensive humanities courses.
First off; biology and environmental sciences are not “useless courses.”
Secondly, taking AP courses outside of what you want to major in is useful for showing colleges you challenged yourself and could potentially get you college credits which you could use to gain advanced standing or possibly use to graduate early from college.
