AP Courses

How Important are AP Exam Scores to Ivy League schools during applying process? Thank You

Do you mean just the scores as in 5s, 4s, 3s, etc., or do you mean certain APs? If the former, then it’s like any other objective criteria. Top schools would like to see all 5s, but some 4s are perectly normal. Are all 4s? Are some 3s? Ask yourself this: objective measures such as SATs, ACTs, and APs allow schools to compare students with one another from other schools. All other things being equal, a 3 can hurt (does not help) but certainly does not rule you out.

For what it’s worth, of course “all other things being equal” is exactly where you don’t want to be come application time. Objective scores are what they are. Only you are you. You can “make up” a less than ideal objective score with developing what is great about you, and then showing that to a school (your actions/acitivities, your essays, and even letters from your GC and teachers). Any school, including a top one, that values that “greatness” is more likely to accept you.

If you attend a high performing school, they expect 5’s (if you report them), 4 if you Are frshman/sophmore taking jr/sr AP 's.
If you attend a lower performing high school MAKE SURE each exam’s median at our school is listed on the school profile, and/or what percentage get a 1, 2,3,4, and 5.
Finally, because students don’t necessarily take the test, they don’t expect you to have a score for each AP, and you can’t self report more than 8 on common app.
