AP Credit and Engineering Program

Two questions on HM I'm hoping CC folks can help with:

It looks like HM does not give credit for AP tests but requires some sort of exam at the school. Is that correct?

Do people get a specific engineering degree, like Mech E, or just a general engineering degree? Also, it looks like most of the recruiters for engineers are A&D firms (Raytheon, etc.) or local utilities? Is that right?

Thanks!

IIRC, Mudd does not give AP credit. There are placement exams during orientation in August.

Mudd only offers a General Engineering degree.

Thanks. Could someone comment on the employers that are hiring the Engineering grads?

Mudd uses their own placement exams for math/physics/chem. In CS, you can take different levels of the intro course depending on background. I’m not sure about bio. Language placement is by exam as well.
Mudders tend to get hired by excellent firms - recruiters include joints like Microsoft and Google. Some recruiting happens out of ‘clinic’ . Some engineering clinic sponsors : DirectTV, Intel,Los Alamos, Mazda, Grummund,Oracle, Paramount, Sandia, Space Systems/Loral.

From what I heard from most Engineering students is that the “General Engineering” covers all types of Engineering and then allows you to focus on one area. It seems to be the most intense major at Mudd since it covers so much.

According to my engineering friends, a lot of the firms that are there at Mudd’s job fairs are looking for software engineers. It’s what’s hot right now. Otherwise they often seem to be aerospace. Of course, Mudders find jobs all over the place, but that’s what seems to be the main crowd hiring engineering folks at Mudd’s job fairs. This is second-hand however as I was not an engineering major and only went to one job fair my junior year to look for an internship.
