Can someone explain to me how those work. Like if you have AP credit for a course are you exempt from the gen ed requirement or do you get placed into the next level of the class but you still have to take it?

I've looked at the ap placement page and the gen ed requirements page but can somebody please explain how these work. And ik this sounds dumb but how will I know what courses to take freshman year, who will tell me and when? (My major is undecided)

It all depends on what classes you’ve taken. For example, if you took AP Stats, then you would be done with your Quant I gen ed requirement. You wouldn’t have to take the next level of it. However, some of the AP credits probably won’t correlate to a ged ed category.

If the UIUC course for which you get AP credit is on the list of acceptable Gen Ed courses then it also counts as completion of that Gen Ed course. In other words, think of it as if you had actually completed the course at UIUC and apply it accordingly to any requirements.

Well what do you want to major in? I can help you out. Also, when you talk with your advisor before you register for classes, they will recommend classes for you to take. You can research classes online at courses.illinois.edu and find which ones interest you. If you aren’t sure what you want to major in I would take classes that fulfill gen eds so you can get those out of the way.
