AP Credit at Carroll

Hi all, I have a couple of questions about AP credit at CSOM… Help!

If I take both the Statistics and Calc BC AP exams, will Carroll give me credit in both or just calculus? (It says that APs only “fulfill corresponding requirements in the Core Curriculum”)

I’m also a little confused about what “BC Course Equivalent” means. (it’s on their AP Credit Policy page on the BC website.) For example, I have a 5 on the Chemistry exam from last year and planning to take Physics C this year. It says the BC Course Equivalent for AP Chem is a “2”; so I already fulfill the Core Curriculum requirement of “two courses in natural science”? Meaning that there would be no point in taking the Physics C this year?

If anyone can answer any of these questions… please… do! I need to know before Tuesday (the Stats AP exam day) Thanks!

Stats counts towards the CSOM Statistics Requirement and Calc counts towards the CSOM Calc Requirment (either can also count for the University Mathematics Requirement) so yes, if you are going into CSOM, Statistics can be useful. Physics and Chem both count towards the sciences requirement so if you already have a 5 on Chem, and you earn a qualifying score on the Physics exam then it will be counted as an Arts & Sciences Elective but the Chem alone completes your University Science Core.

Thanks for your reply. So just to make sure, you're saying that the AP scores can count for classes outside the University Core Curriculum?

Each of the undergraduate schools and programs have their own "core requirements." These programs set their own policies on AP credit fulfilling their cores. I'm not familiar with other programs as much but know that in CSOM, both statistics and calculus exempt students from the Carroll School Core (which is different from the university core). To my knowledge, Stats, Calc, and Micro/Macro Econ are the only AP tests that count towards the CSOM core requirements.

Thanks! I guess I should be studying for of my APs then. I actually was hoping for a reason not to take them, lol :D
