AP credit at CC's (once again)

Hello all.

I'm an incoming freshman who has decided to spend a year (a little bit more or less) at a local Community College, and then transfer to a 4-year institution.

A few of the colleges that I plan on applying to for transfer (Pitzer College, University of San Diego, Chapman University) recommend that I complete 32 semester units before doing so.

In high school, I passed 4 AP exams (US History, English Lit and Comp, Psychology, Spanish) which amounts to 16 semester units.

I have various questions:

Is it possible that those 4 AP exams do in fact help me out in speeding up my transfer process?

If so, do you think I still need to take another English/Writing class at my CC before I apply to transfer, despite me passing the English Lit and Comp AP exam?

Do those AP exams that I passed affect my GPA whatsoever?

I'm registering for classes on Thursday, and some advice would be helpful in deciding whether I should register for an English class or not, etc.

I'm still a bit confused about a few other things. More questions shall be asked by me once I (hopefully) get some replies. Haha.

Thank you.

For a couple of the colleges I've looked at, they will not let you transfer in AP credit; you can only use it as a first-year student. You may want to check with the colleges about their individual policies.

If I were you, I would take more English, yes. You should try to get through at least one 200-level English course at your college. The AP scores may be useful in helping you bypass prerequisites for those.

The exams will not affect your GPA in any way. Your GPA will only reflect work you've completed at the collegiate level.

If you passed those APs with 4s or 5s they are likely to transfer to your next school (not your cc). Your cc will accept 3s as well, so you will at least be able to skip prerequisites. 32 units is a good solid year, 2 semesters of 16 units each is 5 classes a semester.

I'm still a bit confused.

So all my AP exams will not speed up my transfer process whatsoever? Or does it depend on the school?

If I decide to register for a more advanced English class (a.k.a. not English 101, etc.), am I gonna have to take that basic English class once I transfer to a different college?

I talked to my CC counselor about my AP credits, and her advice was for me not to register in any English (or for that matter: Psychology, Spanish, or History classes), but she did seem kind of clueless as to how to respond my questions.

What to you mean by transfer process? They will certainly transfer with you and will count toward your degree. That will definitely, speed up your graduation.

What I mean by "speeding up the transfer process" is that I'd start off college at my CC this fall with about 16 semester units and then I'd only need 16 more semester units to be able to transfer to a university (since they require 32 semester units -- 16 credits + 16 credits)

bah-bump...

Depends on what you mean by "speeding up" the process. As I said before, a couple of the colleges I've looked at do not allow you to transfer in AP credit, even if they grant it for first-year students. The only way you will know how your AP credits will transfer will be to contact the colleges in question and ask.
