Judging by this chart: AP Credit Reference Table - Advanced Placement and Advanced Standing
it seems like there is no credit given at all for the AP tests in Psychology or US Gov. and Pol. Is this true? Also, is taking both Mechanics and E & M the only way to receive credit for Physics C?

im not a student at princeton, but i likely will be next year. i’ve had some concerns about ap credits at princeton too, mainly wondering if ap credit translates to academic credit? or if it just effects placement? to answer your question, cmh, i’m pretty sure that you do in fact have to take both exams to be placed into a higher level course.

AP tests that you score well on provide you with the opportunity to place out of classes, but they do not replace classes (i.e. give you X amount of hours toward graduation). You are still required to take a minimum of 31 courses AB / 36 courses BSE in order to graduate.

There is also something called advanced standing which you can apply for later in your freshman year that takes AP credits into account. Not sure about details but my son did apply and got it. Not sure what good it does unless you want to graduate in three years or take a year off.

My son placed out of the physics requirement for engineers (2 semesters) with 2 5s on the AP exam, as well as 2 semesters of math with a 5 on Calc BC.

So, he’s got those required courses out of the way for a BSE degree – still needs to take a total of 36 courses, but has much more flexibility in what he takes since he’s got those requirements out of the way. His freshman year course schedule has been much more varied as a result.

We were confused too last year, but this is the deal.
