I will be attending OSU in the fall for engineering. I’m currently taking four AP classes (Chem, Literature, Macro, Govt) but I’m not sure where to focus my studying. I have been told not to worry about my score on the chem, because I will most likely be taking it my first year regardless if I earned credit. That leaves the other three. Which would be best or most valuable (Lit, Macro, Gov) to have credit for. Are any of these not going to help me in the long run of an engineers curriculum and other coursework? Any and all opinions are welcome, thanks!
Getting a 3 on the literature test (very easy to do!) will get you out of first-year writing. Not sure about government or economics. You might check with the departments to figure out what those tests might get you out of, and what minimum score you need.
I also forgot to mention I got a 4 on AP Lang last year
My comment was wrong initially
Getting passing scores on any of those would be helpful because they will knock out GE’s. If engineering turns out not to be your path, it would be easier to back track and look at others without adding extra years to your college career since you would already have some GE requirements knocked out.
If you don’t want to take the 1st or 2nd year writing courses then definitely get a 3 on the AP Lit test. Like you, I did both AP Lang&Lit and I got out of all of my english/writing courses. I also did Macro and Gov which covered the 2 social sciences requirements. Unfortunately, some colleges of engineering say these two courses fall under the same “sub category” of social sciences so only 1 class counts.
