I was looking at the web site of one of our lower tier state schools that is very generous in giving AP credit. Here's the odd part: For a 5, you not only get credit, but a grade of A on your transcript; for a 4 you get credit and a grade of B; and for a 3 you get credit but no grade in your GPA.

Isn't that punishing the folks that get a 4 and making a 3 more desirable? I'd assume that the kind of kids who come into college with a bunch of AP credits aren't normally the type who are satisfied with a B average. What if a student took 10 AP exams and got a 4 on all of them? His choice would be no credit in college, or 30 hours of B. The student with 10 AP exams with a score of 3 could get the same 30 hours of credit, but with no grade.

Does this make any sense at all?
