Is it possible to pick and choose the AP credit I receive from colleges? For example, can I choose to take the credit I earned from AP US History, but not take the credit from Calc, or is it an all or nothing type deal? How would I go about doing this? Do I make a special note on my application? Is it even possible to not take any AP credit, even if I’ve earned it?
Thanks!
You can pick and choose which AP scores you send, but I don’t see any reason why you’d do this. You spent $90 taking the exam and are going to spend more money taking classes to fulfill those credits you could be getting.
@frigidcold I can see a few reasons not to take AP credit, one to help GPA another to make sure you haven’t missed anything important by replacing a class for an AP credit.
I think most schools let you pick which classes to take AP credit for and which not to. I think at some schools like TAMU you can even request which semester to take the credit for so if your are required to take a minimum number of credits each semester you can use AP credits as part of that number (if I read things correctly - I could be wrong if so please correct me!)
@3scoutsmom I was under the impression that you could recieve the credit without placing out, but I guess I never really thought about or looked into it.
@Frigidcold so if I didn’t submit one AP test, would it look like I just took the class but not the test?
Unless the college requires it (very rare), you only need to send the official score report to the college you will be attending. Otherwise, AP scores are self reported on the application.
