Hi, I’m an admitted student with a bunch of AP tests taken. After looking at USC AP policy on their webpage, I’m still confused whether some of my tests will give me credit. Do the classes that count for the GE requirements (like chem and US History) count simealtaneously as electives (to the 32 credit cap) as well? Or do I only get credit for GEs only with those tests?
Just the GEs for those specific exams. All other APs can count as elective credits.
So if I have scores of 4+ on stats, apush, chem, macro, bc, lit, and human geo (7 tests), and get 4’s on bio, cs, us gov, and psych (4 tests) this year, could I potentially get out of 4 GEs AND the 32 elective credits?
You will have to double check as USC changed their GE core in 2015. In general, Students may receive a combined maximum of 32 elective units for college courses taken before high school graduation and/or examinations (e.g., AP, IB, or other international exams) taken before matriculation at a two-year or four-year college. In the past, a student can waive out of (and receive 4-units of credit) the Lab Science GE with a 4/5 AP score in Bio, Chem and maybe Physics, and the same for a Humanities GE with a 4/5 score in AP Art History or European History. Those reqs have changed so I am not sure if there is any way to get out of the new core reqs. If you have a 4 or 5 in a language AP, you can skip the 3 semester Foreign Language req in many/most majors/Schools at USC.
@madbean Do you know if USC accepts SAT II Subject test (Spanish) scores instead of AP Spanish, towards meeting the Foreign Language requirement ? If yes, then what should be the minimum SAT II score ?
