Hello!
I’m currently an upcoming freshmen and I’ve been researching a lot about AP Credit lately so that I’m well informed during orientation. I’ve taken 9 ap exams in total and passed all of them. So after doing math, I have 42 credits, which Is around sophomore level? I feel like that is unrealistic so I’m wondering if there is a cap. Here’s the calculations I have:
Macroeconomics (4): 4
US Gov (3): 4
AP Lit (3): 8
Psychology (5): 4
Biology (4): 6
Spanish Language (3): 4
Calc AB (5): 4
Statistics (5): 4
WHAP (4): 4
For clarification, the credits listed above are units towards GE Credit, not elective credits. Also hypothetically, if I wanted to transfer to a different university (let’s say the junior requirement is the normal 60 credits), would I be able to transfer after one year? I know this is a long ready but I would appreciate it if you could give input :)! Thanks.

What is your intended major?

Regarding AP credit for GE’s. Yes, you will get credit for many of the GE requirements but it not just the # of AP credits, but where they are applied.
AP Lit for example satisfies the Written Communication GE (A2) but you still need to take an Oral Communication (A1) and Critical Thinking course (A3) to satisfy this section of the GE’s, so 2 more classes.
AP Biology satisfies the B2 and B3 Science requirements, but still need a Physical Science course (B1).
Spanish, USH & WHAP will satisfy C2 and C3 GE requirements but you still need a Visual/Performing Arts (C1) course.
WHAP/USH/US Gov will satisfy D1a/D1b and D2 GE’s but you still need a Sociology, Anthro & Ethnic Gender studies course.
So based on my list you still need to take 5 GE courses along with any major pre-requisite course to transfer. Depending upon your major, some of the major classes may overlap with GE requirements. You also need to map out which Major courses will transfer, so although based on credits you are Sophomore standing, you may still need to take more than 1 year to transfer.
Just a word of advice that you should not attend CPP with the intent to transfer. You may miss out on forming some lasting friendships, professional/academic contacts and a good college experience if you do not give CPP a chance.

@Gumbymom Thank you for the clear explanation! I am an animal science (prevet) major. I just looked at blackboard for the curriculum sheet and road maps so I now have a better understanding of how my schedule should be laid out :). I was thinking of transferring to SLO because it’s closer to home but I think that if I need more than one year to transfer, I would not be disappointed because I do like CPP a lot.
