AP Credit Question

The Columbia College History Department page on the website says the following:

<<the department="" grants="" 3="" credits="" for="" a="" score="" of="" 5="" on="" the="" ap="" european="" history="" exam="" but="" student="" is="" not="" entitled="" to="" any="" exemptions.="" united="" states="">></the>

Are they simply saying that, if you get a 5 on the AP, you skip the introductory U.S. or European History course and move on to the next higher level course? That is how it worked when I started college long ago.

Can somebody please clarify this?

Thank you.

OK, following the AP Credit Chart thread that was posted earlier:

If you get a 5 on the AP, you get 3 credits toward the 124 points required to graduate from Columbia College. However, if you are a history major, you still have to retake that course at Columbia.

Is that correct?

Yes, you will get empty credits. No, you will not be able to skip any major requirements because of those credits.
