AP Credit Transfer to UCs??

Hi guys,

I’m applying to transfer for Fall 2017. I have taken a course in critical thinking/english composition, however I have not taken an intro english composition class. Transferring to UCLA states that you need both of these classes.

I did complete the AP English Language test with a 3, and was able to receive credit from my community college. However, I am unsure if this credit will transfer.

Does anyone know if I will need to complete the first english class?
(I will have IGETC completed btw)

Thanks for all your help!!
Good luck on your college apps

If it’s for IGETC, you have completed both courses. The UCs accept that AP discrepancy, even if the UC itself would want a score of 4 or above. In other words, the CC allows AP 3 for English IGETC, and therefore so do all the UCs.

Some divisions at UC do not accept IGETC (e.g. UCB College of Engineering, http://www.assist.org/web-assist/reportOnly.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=1&rinst=left&EM=1&sia=AHC&ia=AHC&ria=UCB&oia=UCB&ay=16-17&dora=ENGMECH ). If you target those, you need to check whether your courses and AP credit fulfill the specific requirements (e.g. UCB College of Engineering requires a 4 on AP English to satisfy the English R1A requirement).

Okay that makes sense! Thanks for all your help.

I’m in the same boat as you regarding the AP English Language score of 3. I wouldn’t qualify for Haas as a business major because they don’t accept IGETC. I think I’m good as an Economics major for Berkeley though, since they accept IGETC, I think. I’m curious as to know whether Irvine’s Business Administration accepts IGETC or not. I think I’m good for Davis, since they’re pretty lax.
