AP Credit when transfering

I have about 30 credits of AP right now and am trying to transfer for fall of next year and only have 58 credits of actual college classes and was wondering if anyone has transfered to a UC by using AP credit. If it helps I am applying to UCB, UCI, and UCLA.

Yes you can do it that way.

Yeah so basically they use AP credits to benefit the student- if you need credits they factor in AP credits, if you would go over with the AP credits, they don’t factor it in.

Not exactly. They’ll just cap your total units at 70 semester/105 quarter units. Also, you can still get subject credit for your AP’s if you are over the 70 unit total. There are some other nuances for those transferring from 4 years - essentially, AP credit cannot push you over the unit max (this doesn’t apply to CC students).

But yes, you can use AP units, plenty of people use them to transfer.

Thats what I was saying

More or less, yes.

However, both the units and subject credit for AP scores are counted as determined by the school you are applying to, not by your current school (except as they relate to IGETC certification).

So many nuances.

Bump

I called UCI several times today to ask them if they accepted AP units toward the 90 quarter unit requirement, and I got a different answer every time. The first time I called, they definitively said no. The second time I called, they apprehensively said yes. The third time I called, they definitively said yes. I got admitted as a transfer student from another UC. I have 83 course units and 24 AP units. I’ve been so confused and frustrated about this for the past couple of days… I can’t seem to get a straight answer.

@cawledj They do accept AP units toward the 90 unit requirement, but they won’t grant overlapping credit, and they will cap all lower-division units at 105 quarter units.

You got admitted. You’re fine. Also, don’t revive old threads.

Thank you. Sorry, I’m new here lol

@cawledj That’s fine! Congrats on being accepted.
