what does AP credit do at UC Davis, if it doesn’t fulfill ge?

Helps place you into higher level classes. They can count towards major requirements, like Calculus. They also give you units to improve your pass time. A 4 on an English exam exempts you from the lower division writing requirement (essentially a GE.) A 3 exempts you from taking the Writing placement test.

And they can be used for ‘elective’ credit, assuming your major has need of extra credits. As mentioned above, but I wanted to stress a very important advantage - the more credits you have, the earlier your pass time for registration and when you are trying to get in high demand classes, those extra hours may make the difference.
