Hi guys, I’m going to be a Freshman at Penn in the fall, and I was wondering what Penn’s policy is in terms of AP credits… I’ve seen stuff on their site that they give credit for 5s only in just about everything, but I’ve read elsewhere that they say that, but don’t really give credit at all. Anyone want to fill me in? :)

I didn't take APs, so I don't know how it works out exactly, but some of my credits were automatically added to my transcript, others I had to get a form signed by the relevant dept. chair, and still others never quite happened because the dept. chair was too lazy to sign the forms.
As long as you don't need history credits you should be fine! ;)

They're changing the policy slightly in the fall, so that incoming freshmen won't be able to use AP credits to fulfill general requirements.
In short, you should get credit for what they say you will, but it can only count towards major requirements or electives.

Alright, thanks a lot! Does anyone graduate a year early on AP/Community College credits? Not that I'm planning to, but just out of curiosity..

What do you mean by as long as you don't need history credits... i'm a wharton kid and was planning to use my 5 on AP US History to get an elective credit... can I do that?

Shreverport - Oh yeah, I'm sure you can if it's on the list! The history department just decided to ignore the form I wanted them to sign, and since I couldn't be bothered to hassle them about it, I didn't get any credits. Just my personal experience.

gmman - Yes, some people do. Or graduate a semester early. Or study abroad. Or double major...
